MARIANNA — The Jackson County Farm Bureau celebrated their annual membership meeting on March 9, 2026. The night was about celebrating the success of the organization of the past year as well as its members.
2026 Farm Family - Arnold Family Farm
This year the 2026 Outstanding Farm Family was presented by Doug Mayo, Director of UF/IFAS Extension in Jackson County, to the Arnold Family Farm. Their recognition highlighted the farms family farming history in the state of Florida, family operations, and resilient farming practices in recent years. The Arnold Family Farm has been a staple in the Jackson County agricultural community for four generations, consistently demonstrating excellence in sustainable farming and commitment to community involvement.
The award serves as a testament to their dedication to both their heritage and the future of Florida agriculture.
Jackson County Farm Bureau Receives State Recognition
In recognition of its outstanding yearly achievements, the Jackson County Farm Bureau received two prestigious statewide honors from Florida Farm Bureau President Jeb Smith: the President's Award and the Apex Award. These coveted awards acknowledge exceptional innovation, effective programming, volunteer involvement, and successful goal achievement within the bureau's membership size category.
Jeb highlighted some exciting, forthcoming agriculture legislation, including the new 2026 Florida Farm Bill that is being implemented statewide that will strengthen and protect rural farms. He also mentioned the upcoming vote on eliminating tangible personal property taxes on agriculture equipment in the state.
2025 District Speech Contest Winner Recognition
Joseph Smith was the winner of the 2025 Youth Speech Contest for the Jackson County Farm Bureau, Florida Farm Bureau District 2 winner, and runner up at the Florida Farm Bureau State Annual Meeting. At the meeting, Joseph delivered his district-winning speech addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by modern Florida farmers. He focused on the difficulties stemming from Florida's natural disasters, the impact of industrialization and development on agricultural land, issues of water management, and the adverse effects of unfavorable trade agreements.
During his speech, Joseph also highlighted potential strategies for relief, advocating for solutions such as tax relief, the negotiation of new trade agreements, a renewed focus on supporting Florida farmers, and the provision of immediate, research-backed support and assistance following natural disasters, emphasizing a common-sense approach to these issues.
