Florida Peanut Producers Association Commemorates 50 Years of Excellence and Looks Ahead to the Next 50 Years of Innovation

MARIANNA — The Florida Peanut Producers Association (FPPA) marked a major milestone on February 26, 2026, celebrating 50 years as an organization at its annual membership meeting in Marianna, Fla. Under the theme "The Next 50," the event honored the history of Florida peanut farming while looking ahead to the future of the industry. The celebration brought together growers, board members, and industry representatives to reflect on the association's legacy and chart a course for decades to come.
New Board Members Elected
The meeting welcomed several new members to both the state and national boards. Joining the FPPA State Board are Jeff Fowler and Kirk Brock.
Recognitions & Special Honors
The association recognized outgoing State FPPA Board members Rollin Hudson and Dave DeFelix, of Chiefland and Campbellton, respectively, for their dedicated service to the organization as they rolled off the board.
A special tribute was paid to Mr. Ken Barton, past executive director of the FPPA, who was honored for an extraordinary 24 years of service to the FPPA following his retirement last March. In Mr. Barton's absence, Larry Ford graciously accepted the award on his behalf.
National Peanut Board Presentation
National Peanut Board Representative Ashton Pellom delivered a presentation to the membership, providing updates and insights on national initiatives supporting the peanut farming industry and keeping the interest in peanuts alive as they plan to educate younger generations about the benefits of peanuts.
Spotlight on Young Peanut Farming
In keeping with the forward-looking spirit of "The Next 50," the meeting highlighted Trent Childs of Spanish Trail Farms in Grand Ridge, Fla., as a featured young peanut farmer, showcasing the rising generation of growers who will carry the industry into its next half-century while keeping family farming traditions alive.
FPPA Grower of the Year Award
The prestigious FPPA Grower of the Year Award, presented by People South Bank and Madalyn Garcia of the Marianna FFA Chapter, was awarded to James Marshall of Okaloosa County. Marshall's recognition reflects his outstanding contributions to peanut farming and his commitment to the agricultural community.
